WE ARE
STAKEHOLDER DEMOCRACY NETWORK
Over the last decade we have worked with and supported many local
partner organisations and communities in the Niger Delta on the issues
that affect them. Issues such as improving oil spill response and
compensation, mediating inter-communal conflicts, addressing local
energy needs, supporting the struggle against slum clearance, monitoring
elections, dealing with corruption and striving for environmental and
social justice. In this time we have learned that it is only when Civil
Society, Government and Industry work together can truly sustainable
solutions be found that will help build a lasting peace.
Resource Governance
Working
towards greater participation and representation of citizens in the
Governance of their natural resource wealth, and in corporate social
responsibility and compensation processes, to ensure equitable gains.
Democratisation
Empowering
citizens to demand more accountable, capable and legitimate
institutions from their political representatives, which are able to
satisfy their basic needs and that respect political, social, economic
and environmental rights of all Nigerians.
Environment
Working
with communities and government agencies to protect the environment for
its own sake, and for the natural resources within that are supporting
sustainable livelihoods and the wellbeing of the Niger Delta.
Access to energy
Testing
innovative solutions to providing needed infrastructure for the future
of the the Niger Delta by demonstrating that alternative community-based
approaches to energy poverty can be successful. Solutions such as
converting gas flares from pollution to power and supporting renewable
energy technologies and entrepreneurs.
Resilient communities
Addressing
the root causes of militancy and conflict through sustainable economic
reintegration, reconciliation at the grass-roots community level, and by
strengthening the role of women in peace-building and stabilisation in
the Niger Delta.
CONSTRUCTIVE, INCLUSIVE, TRANSPARENT, CONNECTED, ENGAGED, INFORMED
Our model of engagement is inclusive, engaged, open and
constructive. We bring diverse and opposing stakeholders together to
build lasting bridges and workable solutions based on local knowledge
from those who know best how to deal with the issues they face.
